Objectives of the Group

We are a large and friendly Group, who are interested in the buildings and settlements of the local area. We arrange talks in the winter months and trips to towns, villages and individual buildings once the weather gets warmer. We have a varied programme which includes the ancient and modern, usually with knowledgeable local guides. Our tours often finish in the local pub or teashop!

We meet on the third Thursday of the month, generally at 10.30am. Some of our visits do have limited numbers and we have Booking Forms at the General Meetings where you can put your name down. If you have any questions, please phone Luke on 07774 251197.

GUIDED WALKING TOUR OF CAISTOR – THURSDAY 17 JULY 2025

10.15AM FOR 10.30AM

Caistor is a charming, historic market town on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. It was originally a Roman castrum or fortress, with traces of the walls surviving. Our tour will start and end at the Caistor Arts and Heritage Centre, 28 Plough Hill, Caistor. LN7 6LZ.

We will be guided by Elizabeth Jefferson, who is a Director of Caistor Arts and Heritage Centre and also a member of Market Rasen u3a. She will focus on the interesting features of the buildings in the conservation area. The tour will last around an hour and a half. Elizabeth has pointed out that Caistor is hilly and some pavements are rather narrow.

There is no charge for the tour. However, donations towards the running costs of CAHC are very much appreciated. We would suggest a donation of £5 from each member. As usual, we will collect donations on arrival. As only street parking is available, car sharing is recommended.

Caistor Arts and Heritage Centre has its own café for drinks etc. There are also toilet facilities. Light lunches are served from 12 noon. We have been provided with a lunch menu for members to see beforehand and decide whether they might wish to stay for a bite to eat after our tour.

Numbers are restricted to a maximum of 20 members. The tour is now fully booked, with a reserve list.
