Architecture
Group Leader: Luke Pickering
Objectives of the Group
We are a large and friendly Group, who are interested in the buildings and settlements of the local area. We arrange talks in the winter months and trips to towns, villages and individual buildings once the weather gets warmer. We have a varied programme which includes the ancient and modern, usually with knowledgeable local guides. Our tours often finish in the local pub or teashop!
We meet on the third Thursday of the month, generally at 10.30am. Some of our visits do have limited numbers and we have Booking Forms at the General Meetings where you can put your name down. If you have any questions, please phone Luke on 07774 251197.
See below for photos taken at some of our events, and reports are accessible.
GUIDED WALKING TOUR OF KIRTON IN LINDSEY
THURSDAY 21 AUGUST 2025 AT 10.15AM FOR 10.30AM
Our visit to the historic market town of Kirton in Lindsey will start outside the Grade II listed Town Hall, in the medieval Market Place. We will be led on a tour of the town by members of the Kirton in Lindsey Society, finishing at St Andrew’s Church.
Our visit is likely to take about an hour and a half. There is car parking in the Market Place (DN21 4LZ) and on nearby streets and toilet facilities in the Town Hall. Please note that the route to the Church is down quite a steep slope.
The cost of the tour is £5 per member. As usual, this will be collected on arrival at the meeting point.
For those seeking refreshment after the visit, there is a new café/bistro and also a highly thought of pub in the Market Place. Uncle Henry’s Farm Shop and Café is a short drive away.
The Booking Form for this interesting tour will be on the Architecture Group’s table in the Welton Room at the July and August General Meetings.

WALKING TOUR OF UPHILL LINCOLN
THURSDAY 18 SEPTEMBER 2025 AND THURSDAY 16 OCTOBER 2025
10.15AM FOR 10.30AM
We will meet at the Lincoln Hotel on Eastgate, Lincoln, ready for a 10.30am start.
Fellow Lindsey u3a member, Penny Forsdyke, will guide us through Uphill Lincoln on a tour which she has given the fascinating name of “Murder and Mayhem”. One wonders what to expect!!
The walk will last an hour to an hour and a half. Numbers are restricted to a maximum of 15 members. Lincoln tours are always very popular with the Architecture Group. Therefore, to avoid disappointment, Penny has kindly agreed to repeat September’s “Murder and Mayhem” for the Architecture Group’s October meeting.
There will be two Booking Forms on our table from the 7 August 2025 General Meeting. Please choose which date suits you best and add your name and phone number to one of the lists. There is no charge for the tour.
With such a variety of cafes and tea shops in the area, members will have no trouble in seeking refreshment after the walk.
