Architecture

Group Leader: Luke Pickering

Objectives of the Group

We are a large and friendly Group, who are interested in the buildings and settlements of the local area.  We arrange talks in the winter months and trips to towns, villages and individual buildings once the weather gets warmer.  We have a varied programme which includes the ancient and modern, usually with knowledgeable local guides.  Our tours often finish in the local pub or teashop!

We meet on the third Thursday of the month, generally at 10.30am. Some of our visits do have limited numbers and we have Booking Forms at the General Meetings where you can put your name down. If you have any questions, please phone Luke on 07774 251197.

FRIDAY 17 JULY 2026 – 10.15AM FOR 10.30AM

Our day will begin with a guided tour of the magnificent St Andrew’s Parish Church. It was built in the 1300s in lavishly decorated style with statues, gargoyles and carved animals leaping from the world and imagination of the 14 th century stone carvers!

We then go for lunch at the Miller’s House Tea Rooms, followed by a visit to the only 8 sailed Windmill in the world. The day can be rounded off at the on-site Brewery.

Both the Church and Mill tours each cost £5 and food at the Tea Room must be pre-ordered.

Beer is optional!!

We are limited to 25 members. The Booking Form and lunch menu will be on the Architecture Group’s table in the Welton Room at the 4 June General Meeting. Orders and payments for food and also the Windmill tour must be made by 8 July 2026. We will take payments in cash

  or by cheque.

Alternatively, you can arrange a BACS payment with our Treasurer Malcolm. £5 donations for the St Andrew’s Church tour will be collected on arrival. Car parking details are to be confirmed nearer the time.

VISIT TO SOUTHSIDE/ST KATHERINE’S,

COLEGRAVE STREET, LINCOLN. LN5 8DW

THURSDAY 20 AUGUST 2026– 10.15AM FOR 10.30AM

This  Grade II listed former Methodist Church of St Katherine’s dates back to 1887 and is now in use as the community venue and commercial centre known as Southside.

The Architecture Group is fortunate in being able to hire this impressive building for the morning. We expect it to be a very special meeting as, in view of its size, there will not be the normal restriction on numbers.

We are to be welcomed by our guide and host, Colin Webb. He will begin with a presentation of the work and uses of the site, followed by a brief history and with time for a look around this interesting building, with its unusual features. There will be a break for refreshments at the halfway point.

The visit will last approximately two hours. There are accessible toilets. The cost, which includes refreshments, is £5 per member. Payments will be collected on the day.

There is no on-site parking and it is a busy area to find road parking. Car-sharing is therefore essential.

To join us on what promises to be an enjoyable experience, please add your name to the Booking Form which will be on the Architecture Group’s table in the Welton Room, at the July and August General Meetings. Alternatively, you may book a place by contacting us on one of the numbers below.
